Welcome to the MSU Community Music School

Founded in 1993, the Michigan State University (MSU) Community Music School (CMS) is the outreach division of the MSU College of Music. CMS brings music education and music therapy to those of all ages and abilities within the Greater Lansing community. Founded on the belief that music dramatically enhances the quality of life, CMS offers opportunities for the study, appreciation, and therapeutic use of music while nurturing the musical development of all. At CMS, students and therapy clients are brought together with music professionals, who are committed to sharing their extraordinary gifts by offering accessible and affordable music instruction, music therapy, and performance opportunities for all interested community members.

We are conveniently located off-campus, on the eastern edge of East Lansing, just north of Burcham Road (map and driving directions) with plenty of free parking.

Teddy Bear Tea Fundraiser on Dec. 14

The MSU Children's Choir will host the fifth annual Teddy Bear Tea on December 14 at the Country Club of Lansing. The tea will include a performance by the Grammyaward-winning choir, an assortment of silver dollar sandwiches, treats, tea,coffee, hot chocolate and juices, crafting, a holiday story, and a visit fromSanta and Mrs. Claus. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit www.teddybeartea.org or contact the CMS office. Tickets are required and must be purchased by December 1.

Find A Teacher
Are you looking for an instrument teacher for your child or yourself? This is the right place! We offer lessons on all band and orchestra instruments, piano, voice, guitar, even carillon. To find a teacher, you can call the office to give us information that will help us make a placement, or (even easier) you can try our new online lesson request form, located here. Fill in the form and send it to us, and we'll try to place you with a teacher within 48 hours.
